I pity Nana Akufo-Addo – Maame Dokono

Veteran actress, Maame Dokono has stated that the internal wrangling in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the selfish interest of some of the party’s Members of Parliament can cost them the presidency in the November polls.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review over the weekend, Maame Dokono, known in real life as Grace Omaboe said she feels pity for the party’s flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, as his chances of becoming the president of the country looks slim due to the magnitude of the internal wrangling.

“We are fighting amongst ourselves. Now there are about four cases in court, aside that a number of people have declared their intention to contest as independent candidates and that can affect our votes. I pity Nana Addo because it looks like the NPP MPs are seeking their selfish interest. They are not thinking about Nana nor the party. They are concerned about going to parliament and getting ex-gratia and other benefits it comes with,” she said.

Maame Dokono believes the worsening economic situation in the country cannot bring victory to the NPP unless there is unity among party members.

“If NPP unites, we can win. The internal wrangling is too much. An acid was poured on Adams Mahama which led to his death, Afoko has been suspended… There are so many issues dragging us into the pit. Afoko’s suspension can affect our votes from the north because he could have helped in that regard. If all these does not stop, Nana will work in vain,” she noted.

The NPP for some time now has been struggling to keep the peace with accusations and counter-accusations being traded among the rank and file of the party. The party seems divided along the Alan-Nana Addo camps.
