Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter Amaarae has disclosed what she described as the overwhelming hate she receives in Ghana.
In an interview with ABC News Live Prime, she stated that despite the hate from her own country, she is motivated to do better.
"I don't think anyone gets much hatred from their home country as I have, and it is unfortunate and I think it is also because I am a woman because as a bold and expressive woman, I think it scares them,” she stated.
Amaarae, who is currently on tour with American singer Sabrina Carpenter, mentioned that the latter has been an inspiration to her.
"She is so musical, it is everything from pop, country, and Jazz to Hip Pop, I think watching and learning from her has been amazing for me".
Amaarae has songs like "Reckless & Sweet", "Like It" "Leave Me Alone" and "Wasyed Eyes" and also has a feature with British Rapper Stomzy titled "This is What I Mean".
The song has over 2.7 Million views on YouTube.
