Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has recounted an incident where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government repossessed a vehicle given to her by the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

She detailed that during John Dramani Mahama's tenure, vehicles were distributed to some celebrities in need, with the understanding that the costs would be repaid as loans.

Edjeani, a beneficiary of this initiative, said she received a Chevrolet and was fulfilling the payment terms progressively.

However, upon the NPP's ascension to political office in 2017, she said she experienced the unexplained confiscation of her vehicle by the authorities.

In a 3FM interview, Akofa shared her experience: "When John Mahama was in office, he distributed 50 cars to celebrities, starting with 25 in the north, in Kumasi and 25 in Accra, to both actors and musicians. I received a Chevrolet, but when the NPP took over, my car was taken away. My son was using it; they had installed trackers. Once they were in power, they located it.

"My son was driving when they intercepted him and took the car without allowing him to retrieve his belongings, including his backpack, basketball, and school bag. The cars were given with the intention of increasing the number each year. For those who could afford it, a payment plan of perhaps five years was set up for installments. These weren't giveaways," she explained.

Meanwhile, celebrities like actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu have urged the creative community to back John Dramani Mahama, citing his support with vehicle provisions for creatives during his time as president her reason for the endorsement.
