Legendary Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has shared her challenging experiences in the political arena.

Maame Dokono, who gained fame through the Akan Drama series "Obra" on GTV and as the host of "By The Fire Side," ventured into politics during the late Jerry John Rawlings' administration by joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, her political allegiance shifted when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer in 2008.

After the NPP's electoral defeat, Maame Dokono faced significant backlash, with many blaming her for the party's loss.

Speaking at an event on July 30, 2024, she expressed her regret over her political involvement and how it influenced her decision to retire from politics.

"I got to know that if you are in politics and your government doesn't win, it becomes a problem. So, because of what I'm doing, I decided to stop because… I would say I joined the two parties and I really suffered for it, so I decided not to go there again," the 79-year-old actress stated.

She shared this sentiment at an event celebrating her 80th birthday and her 60-year career in the Ghanaian movie industry.

Maame Dokono also announced the launch of her new book on August 7, 2024.

The book will cover various aspects of her life, including delivering all six of her children via C-section, her experiences with Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, and her time in the movie industry, among other topics.
