I supported Akufo-Addo's campaign financially in 2016 but I'm disappointed - Big Akwes

Ghanaian actor Big Akwes has expressed disappointment in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of not fulfilling promises made to the movie industry.

He recounted that during the 2016 election campaign, he donated money to support Akufo-Addo's campaign, persuaded by the promise to address the industry's needs.

However, Big Akwes claims that since taking office, the president has not delivered on these promises, leaving expectations unmet.

Speaking on the United Showbiz programme with MzGee, the actor detailed how Akufo-Addo's persuasive communication led him and others to support his candidacy.

"I wasn't part of agenda 57, the group of actors supporting NPP, like Agya Koo, Matilda Asare, and others. I didn't campaign for Akufo-Addo. My financial contribution was to support his campaign, which helped him ascend to power. His convincing words made us believe he would assist filmmakers.

He said, โ€œfilmmakers, believe and trust me and I will help you. Ignore Mahama because I will not use money for anything at my age.โ€

"We were unaware of his deceit and his fondness for money. Our complaints have been ignored. Promises of a film village, theatre, and incentives for producers amounted to nothing. The committee responsible for fund distribution acted unfairly, sidelining those not aligned with NPP," he stated in Twi.

Other creative arts figures, including Christiana Awuni and Mr. Beautiful, have also expressed their frustration with the Akufo-Addo administration's treatment of the movie industry.
