After publicly endorsing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, at the 2024 election campaign launch, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) has reiterated his support for the party.
Many were surprised by KOD's endorsement of the NDC on such a significant platform.
However, the well-known media personality explained that his support for the party is deeply rooted in his background.
During an interview with Citi FM's Bernard Avle, KOD shared that his long-standing affinity for the NDC comes from his upbringing and family influences.
"I have always had a soft spot for the NDC because of my background, my mother, my father, and the environment I grew up in," he said.
At the recent NDC campaign launch in Tamale, KOD was actively involved, rallying support for John Mahama as the country approaches the December 2024 elections.
He praised Mahama's journey and encouraged Ghanaians to embrace the change they have been seeking, stating, "We need that change that we've been yearning for."
The Controversy
It is important to note that in a September 2023 interview, KOD, who had previously supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP), announced his switch to the opposition NDC, citing unfulfilled promises by the current government.
This shift was not well received by most of his acquaintances. In a Facebook post on July 20, KOD mentioned that some individuals have distanced themselves from him due to his new political stance, although he respects their choices.
KOD emphasized his right to make his own decisions, including his political opinions, and expressed frustration at attempts by others to influence his beliefs.
