Gospel minstrel Gifty Osei has said due to the imposture of some gospel artistes, she opted to relax a while to watch how the industry will go.
Empress One told Kojo Preko Dankwa, host of K-Entertainment on Kasapa FM, most gospel musicians are hypocrites.
“It came to a point, I sat down and said to myself that I’ll relax and see what my colleagues will do… For a whole one year I didn’t attend any program and even in churches it was the worse of all. Gospel artistes billed to perform at an event will never come into the auditorium to watch their colleagues perform but will rather sit in their cars and call the organisers to ask if a musician has finished performing so they can take over.”
According to Osei, many gospel artistes despise their own colleagues because of their selfish gain.
“I’ve seen these behaviours of some known gospel musicians. I’ve been telling them it’s wrong, we should calm down and love ourselves. Those you despise today in the gospel industry, after two, three years they are going to become the hotcake in the industry. I remember when I started doing gospel music, there were a lot of big artistes in the industry. I didn’t know God will bring me this far so you don’t despise anybody’s beginning but rather encourage the person, show them love.” He told Kojo Preko Dankwa
Recounting how some gospel artistes behave at events, Empress One said, “As Gospel artistes ,we are our own enemies because most artistes hate to perform with their own colleagues. Most gospel artistes go to the extent of asking event organisers who are those gospel artistes also billed to perform at that program? Others will give orders to organizers to take out colleague gospel artistes they feel they aren’t comfortable with.”
