Zelda Nana Yaa Adepa Dedaa Manteaw, popularly known as DJ Zel, has pledged to support the less privileged in society to ensure they have the same life opportunities.

According to the 2019 Best Outstanding Young DJ of the Year at the NELAS Awards in the United Kingdom (UK), many children grow up without the opportunities that others have, which could have significantly contributed to their upbringing. As a result, she aims to bridge this gap.

Manteaw, who also prides herself on being the Rising Star of the Year at the Ghana Music and Arts Awards held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2019, explained that she aims to support schools with books and stationery in Saltpond and also help the Ga Mantse Educational Support Fund to benefit society.

She touched down at Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, August 24, 2024, and stated, “I want children who don’t have the same opportunities that other people have to get the same.”

Her mother, Jennifer Nana Boahemaa Manteaw, added, “She is 14 years old and has done so much at her age. She is here to donate thousands of books and stationery to one of the basic schools in Saltpond and also support the Ga Mantse in his educational fund.

“When she turned 8, her dad was in Ghana, and she came to me and said, ‘Mummy, I want to be a DJ,’ and I was like, a DJ is a job dominated by men, but she said that is what she wanted to do. So, I had to convince her dad, and we had to enroll her in one of the best DJ schools in the UK. She came to Ghana in 2015 and saw how some of the children were less privileged, so she said she wanted to use some of her savings to help them. That necessitated this initiative.”
