Founder and leader of the Heavens Gate Ministries, Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha, has announced that he will be running for president in the upcoming elections in December.

In an interview on TV3, Kumchacha said he would be running as an independent candidate under the Kum Peoples Party (KPP).

He addressed critics who challenged his eligibility because of his command of the English language, stating that it was not a requirement to run for the presidency.

"It's official, I am going independent under the party; KPP (Kum Peoples Party). Someone asked why I was running for president when my command of the English language wasn't that great. But if you look into the constitution, the 3 major requirements to run for president include not being less than 40 years old, not having a criminal record and being of sound mind.

“Look at China with a population of more than 1 billion, they don't speak English, they speak in their local dialect, but even those who speak good English go there for loans. So it's not about the English language,” he said.

Prophet Kumchacha further added that, if elected, he would sort out the issue of rent control to make housing more affordable.

He also promised to reform the criminal justice system by reducing prison sentences for petty crimes and employing offenders on state-sponsored farms.

“A lot of emergencies can happen. So if you are being forced to pay 40, 000 in rent, how much would be left for other expenses? Another would be the criminal justice system, people are being jailed for decades for petty crimes like theft. Instead of locking them up, I will employ them in state farms,” he added.

Responding to people who questioned why he usually commented on politics, Kumchacha asserted that such issues are relevant to his sermons and the country in general.

“People are stealing money and storing them overseas. All these are plaguing Ghana yet when I talk about them in my sermons, people will tell me to talk about biblical things, aren't these things in the bible?” he said.
