The Ghanaian filmmaker and chairman of the Ghana Classification Board explained that the industry's stagnation is due to a lack of proper orientation for newcomers.
In an interview on 3FM, Socrate Safo expressed his concern that many people, including himself, entered the industry purely out of passion, without a clear understanding of how it operates. This lack of knowledge led to numerous challenges and ultimately caused the industry to struggle.
Additionally, Socrate Safo highlighted the absence of structured guidance and education as a major issue.
He emphasized that many talented individuals are unprepared for the realities of the industry because they did not receive the necessary orientation.
He stated, "It's not growing as it's supposed to be; it's still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees.
Socrate Safo emphasized the importance of receiving proper orientation about the industry, stating, "We didn't understand the industry; most of us came in without the proper orientation. We didn't receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.
"You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. 'We do this because of ABCD; we don't do this because of ABCD' - you didn't get that. Nobody ever did."
