A nineteen year-old Bachelor of Science Student at the University of Cape Coast, Irene Dwomoh was crowned Miss Ghana 2006 at the Accra International Conference Center early this morning.
Jennifer Victoria Koranteng of the University of Ghana took the first runner-up whilst Debrah Appiah from the University Cape Coast took the second runner-up position.
The audience in the packed auditorium of the conference center cheered amidst singing and dancing when the MC of the show announced Irene Dwumoh as the new Miss Ghana for 2006.
Even though some of the contestants the audience nominated did not make it to the final five, most of them said Irene Dwumoh deserved the crown.
With her confidence and the beautiful smile, the second year Mathematics and Statistics student answered the questions asked by the judges, perhaps brilliantly to win the support of the audience.
For the patrons who filled the auditorium, the show was pure fun.
They danced to music provided by artistes, especially the collaboration from Paapa Yankson, C.K Man, A.B Crentsil and Charles Amoah. And as expected in such showbiz programmes not every single person left the auditorium happy.
Few people in the audience occasionally screamed on top of their voices when their favourites were dropped in the journey to the final five.
But the MC, Kwasi Kyei Darko had a message for the audience. He reminded them that “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. And should the beholder have poor eyesight, he could always ask the nearest person which lady looked best”.
