A picture of Keche Andrew’s wife, Joana Gyan Cudjoe at her mining site, has caught the attention of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, who has strongly criticised the businesswoman.

In numerous interviews, Joana Gyan has consistently stated that she is involved in the mining business and has openly discussed the huge profits she makes each year.

Joana Gyan who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Golden Empire Legacy Limited, in a 2020 interview on “The Delay Show,” disclosed that she earns $700 million annually from her gold export business.

She has also received widespread recognition and multiple awards for her contributions to the industry, including the 2021 Forbes ‘Best Female Miner of the Year’ and the FIN 'Gold Woman of the Year' award.

However, a recent picture of Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe at her mining site, visibly muddy from the gold extraction process, has gone viral triggering responses online.

Reacting to this, popular radio presenter and ardent anti-galamsey advocate Okatakyie Afrifa has turned his focus on her.

He has also questioned her candidacy as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary contestant for Amenfi Central, arguing that she should not be in parliament due to her involvement in activities that deplete the environment.

“Look at the woman standing at the galamsey site washing gold. This woman, Joana Gyan, who is fond of boasting about her wealth, wants to be in parliament. Are we mad in this country? Does it mean that anyone with money can enter parliament and decide for us?” he fumed during his show on Angel FM.

“It’s one of the highest decision-making bodies in our land, and this woman wants to be part of it? She doesn’t deserve to be there. It’s sad that in our society, if you have money, you can enter any space,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians are outraged by the destruction of water bodies due to galamsey and have urged the government to take decisive action against all mining activities.

Religious leaders, political figures, and state institutions have expressed concern over the menace.

The issue has also garnered international attention, with foreign media throwing a spotlight on it.
