Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste Camidoh has issued an apology for a controversial statement he made about smoking.

It could be recalled that in an interview with Joy Prime on August 2, 2024, Camidoh compared smoking to the exposure to smoke that kenkey sellers experience while cooking.

Although he acknowledged the general advice against smoking due to its harmful effects on the lungs, Camidoh pointed out that other activities, such as cooking kenkey, also exposed one to smoke.

However, following the interview, Camidoh faced significant backlash on social media.

In response, he took to X (formerly Twitter) on August 9, 2024, to apologise to his fans, admitting that his analogy was a poor choice.

“Hey y'all. I just want to acknowledge that I made an analogy about smoking in a recent interview, and, in hindsight, I realize it was a poor choice and genuinely quite dumb. I’m sincerely sorry for that, and I want to formally retract that statement, along with anything I might have said in its defence. Love, Midoh,” he wrote.

Camidoh, who recently released the track ‘Nothing Lasts Forever,’ revealed in an interview in June that the song was inspired by a heartbreak he experienced.

He admitted that the emotional pain led him to smoking as a coping mechanism.
