It will be pretentious to act as though Shatta and I are friends – Yaa Pono

Ghanaian rapper, Yaa Pono, has said he sees no reason to celebrate dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, on his birthday considering the artiste is not his friend.

According to the “Kasahari lyricist”, celebrating someone who is not his buddy will be hypocritical on his side because there is nothing he would describe him with.

Speaking in an interview on Ayekoo Drive’ with DJ Advicer on Happy FM, the Ashaiman based rapper said “Shatta Wale and I are not friends, I celebrated Sarkodie on his birthday because we’re friends. I don’t even know Shatta’s birthday date” He cited Sarkodie, Kabum, Qwamina MP, Medika and Fameye as people he can confidently call friends.

Yaa Pono and Shatta Wale in 2017 decided to engage in a lyrical contest which eventually led the two directing their ire into the recording booth to show their prowess.

Same year, Yaa Pono threatened to beat Shatta Wale for ‘sabotaging’ his performance at his Cape Coast Stadium concert.

After the Cape Coast drama, the “Obia Wo Ni Master” hit maker suggested, possibly out of fear, that he would sweep the show with his huge Cape Coast fan base, Shatta Wale who felt threatened, sabotaged him and worked to push him off the performers’ list.

The rapper recorded a diss song, “Noko Fio” and later recorded “Gbee Naabu” for Shatta Wale when the latter attempted to battle him lyrically. The song became the toast of many in the entertainment industry and featured events in the country.
