It all started sixteen years ago when she gave her life to Christ. The Good Lord who knew her before she was conceived gave her a wonderful gift of a golden voice and having realized this, decided to use her voice to Praise God the Almighty.
She is Jenifer Chonia behind showbiz and Jenny C as her claim to fame. The sensational Jenny C has come to stay in the gospel music industry with her silky voice. She owns the “Nyame Ben Ni” song which is enjoying much air play both on Radio and TV stations across the country.
In the Ghanaian music industry, this prestigious lady is new on the block but very popular in Switzerland where she resides at the moment. She is one of the greatest performers in Switzerland when it comes to gospel music. Jenny C always performs with a mass choir, and because she is a worship leader, she has totally devoted her life to Christ to be used in the ministry.
“In an interview with the ace gospel musician Jenny C via the phone, she said that even though she always do English songs, she realized that it will be good if she comes back to her mother land Ghana to give out what God has put in her. “I was having these plans in mind but how? So when I heard that my brother Kobby Ray wrote a song for Ghanaian artiste Gifty Osei, I called him to write one in Twi for me to sing, and he did. Kobby has really shown me that he is truly a talented song writer” she stated.
Jenny C whose voice brings the presence of God down came out with her debut album titled “Nyame Ben Ni”this year. The 12 track album has hit songs like, “Holy Ground, Mokobe featuring Lady Prempeh, Momma menka, Wose Ayeyi, Keep Moving which is a song dedicated for the Black Stars of Ghana and others. “Holy Ground is my favorite because it is a song that came when praying with some elders of my church. “Nyame ben ni” because it also talks much about my life” Jenny C confessed.
Jenny C has performed in countries like Italy, Germany, Holland and France but lives with her two handsome children Kelvin Chonia (14yrs) and Emmanuel Chonia (10yrs). She comes from Mamprobi a suburb of Accra, where she had her basic education at the Roman Catholic Middle School and then proceeded to the Social Advance Institute for her business and secretarial studies.
She joined the Grace Gospel Ministry at Mamprobi with the Gospel Melodians and later went to Switzerland to join the Path Of Life International Ministry led by Rev Jonathan Botwe, brother in-law of Evangelist Dag Heward Mills of Light House. She then joined the Universal Choir of Zurich (UCF) where she led the group singing their title track on their debut album “Praise Him Everyday”.
Jenny C works with a Clinic in the Switzerland where she said her Boss is a God chosen one for her gospel music profession. According to her, she liked Lady Prempeh so much after meeting her on the same stage when she came to Ghana on Sound Splash on (TV Africa.) “My spirit and her spirit clicked when we met for the first time so I decided to collaborate with her on the track “Mokobe,” in fact she is a nice person” she said.
When this reporter met Jenny C's Producer Kobby Ray, one of the best gospel song writers in Ghana with credits like “Aseda”, album of one the finest gospel artiste of our time Gifty Osei, he had this to say. “As you know, producing and promoting an album in Ghana is not a mere thing but we are trying our best to pave way for the song. Thank God the content of the song is rich so people are patronizing the album.
There are shortages of the album in Kumasi as I am talking to you after sending 7000 copies there. We are now printing some in addition and they will be ready after this week. Working with my sister Jenny C is a wonderful thing and i thank God that the song has started making impact in the lives of people.
