Joe Mettle: Contemporary Gospel does not lack spirituality

Contemporary Gospel artiste, Joe Mettle has corrected perceptions by some sections of the public that contemporary forms of gospel music normally are not spiritual enough to transform the lives of people who listen to them.

He believes that, songs by him and other contemporary gospel musicians are spirit filled because he’s had feedback and has been witness to people’s lives not only being impacted in a positive way, but also being inspired to make positive decisions.

He added that contemporary gospel musicians do not need to act or say certain words just to show their spirituality.

Speaking on the AM Pluzz Morning Show, Joe Mettle admitted; “I agree that sometimes some of the music has clauses to it, but it does not mean that general contemporary music is not spiritual”.

Meanwhile, veteran gospel artiste, Mary Ghansah explained that contemporary and the old mainstream gospel was similar since they both carry the same message which is about Christ.

She said the only difference is the approach to the composition of the music now largely because of advanced instruments at the disposal of current musicians.

Madam Mary Ghansah disagreed with perceptions that contemporary gospel artiste lack spirituality saying “those singing contemporary have not backslided, it’s just their approach and presentation that different”.

She then reiterated that there was no competition between the mainstream gospel musicians and their contemporary counterparts but that both genres complement each other while commending the contemporary gospel artistes for their hard work.
