Joy 99.7FM has launched a new award, the JoyFM Music Star Award intended to recognize and reward one musician that Ghanaians consider the best music superstar of the year.
The JoyFM Music Star 2005 will be crowned at the Nite with the stars event scheduled for Saturday October 15th and is intended to be an annual award.
The maiden award coincides with the fifth edition of the Nite with the Stars and the station’s 10th anniversary celebration.
Selection of the Music Star will be done by the public out of a list of nominees.
The nominees for the maiden Music Star Awards are Obour, Kofi Nti, Castro, K. K. Fosu and Ofori Amponsah.
JOYFM’s head of music programmes, Cox Tamakloe explains the rationale for instituting the award and the public voting.
“ We are trying to build a pop culture and image of artists which is very critical in show business. We are trying to push the artiste above mediocrity so what we are trying to do is encourage and give them the avenue.
This is purely going to be by public voting, even though there has been a technical committee that has sat down to select five artistes, which are KK Fosu, Castro, Ofori Amponsah, Obuor and Kofi Nti.
So you can select one of the artistes by sending a text of their names to BUZZ GSM number 0277555503. 60 per cent of the votes will be collated between now and morning of October 15 at 8am. The remaining 40 per cent will be done by the patrons at the Accra International Conference Centre-AICC,” he said.
The winner of the JoyFM Music Star 2005, will among others receive a plaque, ¢60 million in free airtime, six months supply of products from the Guinness Ghana Breweries Group and call- up credits from Buzz GSM.
The crowning of the JoyFM Music Star 2005 is one of the additions to the Nite with the Stars event, organized annually by JoyFM.
This year’s event will also be preceded by a special 10th anniversary cocktail for all patrons of the event.
