Gospel musician, Joyce Blessing is one artiste who has disabused the perception that gospel musicians are dull on stage.
Her performance during the first edition of the GN Bank Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) received positive remarks from entertainment pundits and patrons.
Known as Unbreakable, Joyce wowed the crowd again at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards with yet another mind-blowing live band performance.
Speaking on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz show on Thursday, the Monko Mo Akyi singer said she is able to perform marvellously well because of her experience with a band coupled with backing notable artistes before the shot to the limelight.
“I’ve played for See Them band for five years. I’ve backed many artistes in the studio including Evangelist Diana Asamoah, Jewel Ackah, Mary Ghansah, Ernest Opoku Jnr, Aseibu Amanfi. Through this, God was preparing me for the task ahead. So when it comes to stage performance, I don’t intend to brag but by the grace of God, I sing to entertain, to move people so they forget their worries,” she said.
“I involve the audience so much that even if the duration of my performance is three hours, they won’t get tired…,” Joyce added.
She noted that if anyone does a list of top female performers in Ghana and she does not top the list, “people will even know it is fake.”
The spirited performer also mentioned that she is convinced Gospel music has undergone a commendable transformation. She was hopeful there will be a number of successes chalked by gospel musicians some time to come.
“I know God is moving Gospel to a higher height through me because some years back, people taught Gospel was all about shooting videos while standing close to flowers and all that. It got to a point people upon hearing of a gospel show conclude it will be boring; but it has changed,” Joyce Blessing said.
Adding: “A time is coming Joyce Blessing will win Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. I’m working towards that.”
