Popular music producer and industry pundit Nana Poku Ashis has reacted to comments made by Highlife artiste KK Fosu over criticisms for his no-show at the funeral of blogger John Claude, who passed away in an accident in May 2024.

In an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM on July 23, 2024, Ashis apologised for KK Fosu’s outburst and explained that the artiste's comments were driven by deep frustration and anger over the lack of action against the driver responsible for the tragic accident while he was being unfairly targeted by public backlash.

“His utterances yesterday were uncalled for, honestly. Being friends of his, we should be able to step in and apologise to everybody who read something, saw something and felt bad. KK is not a selfish person. Sometimes anger leads people to do what they are not supposed to do or what they are not supposed to say.

“His anger was about why the person who actually caused the accident is still at large. It's not like he is hearing anything that that person is being chased or that person is being brought in. Nobody's communicating anything to him. So, where his anger was coming from was like, ‘why is that guy that caused somebody's life being allowed to just be there? And then I am the one that's getting all the backlash?” he said.

Ashis emphasised that KK Fosu's reaction was not reflective of his true character, describing him as a selfless individual who always goes out of his way to help others.
“KK is not a selfish person. KK is someone we know is a very selfless human being. KK will go to great lengths to make you happy if he has to. That's what he was doing before he had an accident,” he added.

Ashis also criticised the handling of the situation by Fosu's team, suggesting that better public relations could have mitigated the negative response.

“What stopped them, the team, from doing a proper polishing before the young man spoke? You know that the team let KK down because this is a very sensitive issue,” he said.

He called for understanding and compassion, noting that Fosu was deeply affected by the incident and the subsequent criticism.

What happened?

On May 25, 2024, Ghanaian musicians KK Fosu and Bless were involved in a severe car accident on the Accra-Apam highway, resulting in serious injuries for both artistes and the tragic death of John Claude, Bless's videographer.

Following John Claude's burial on July 19, 2024, social media users and industry stakeholders, including Elorm Beenie and Eric Toscar, criticised KK Fosu and Bless for not attending the funeral or the one-week commemoration.

In response, KK Fosu expressed his frustration in a Facebook post on July 22, 2024, urging critics to focus on seeking justice for John Claude rather than attacking him and Bless.
