Mrs Joyce Ababio, a renowned international fashion designer, who has been out of the limelight for some time now, has opened a new Kente Boutique, near the St Barnabas Anglican Church, Osu, Accra.
According to Joyce, the boutique, “Joyce Ababio Kente”, which sells only kente designs and fabrics interwoven with kente, aims at promoting Ghana’s kente and seeks to encourage Ghanaians and foreign nationals to patrionise made-in-Ghana clothes.
The boutique was opened last weekend and dedicated by Nana Akosua Takyiaw, the Queen of Manso-Abore, in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
Mrs Ababio said Kente is Ghana’s treasured fabric and she intends to use it to promote culture and tourism in the country. She said the designs are suitable for everyday wear, and includes office, wedding and dinner clothes. She said she is using kente fabric for her designs in response to the Presidential Initiative to promote made-in-Ghana products launched by President John Agyekum Kufuor.
