Running Mate to be announced today
Kofi Annan is to run as an independent in the 2008 presidential race.
The former United Nations Secretary General declared his intention at the Waldorf Astoria on the occasion of the MacArthur Foundation's presentation of its first International Justice Award to Annan.
Annan, who is expected to announce his running mate later today will have to overcome Nana Akufo-Addo(NPP), Atta Mills(NDC), Nduom(CPP) and Mahama(PNC) at the polls. According to the latest opinion polls, Annan will comfortably get 55% of the votes.
Annan promises a lean and mean government with only 11 ministerial positions:
- Finance & Economic Planning: Ofori-Atta (Databank CEO)
- Foreign Affairs: Nana Konadu Rawlings
- Education: Patrick Awuah (Ashesi University)
- Health: Dr. Edward Addai (Director, Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation)
- Sports: (Prof) Azumah Nelson
- Attorney General: Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie
- Information: Kwesi Pratt
- Energy: Kofi Wayo
- Interior & Defence: Maj. Gen Nkegbe
- Agriculture: ?
- Transport: ?
When contacted to comment on the validity of the story, a spokesman for Annan, who wants to remain anonymous, asked "What is today's date?"
