Ghanaian musician, Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata has teamed up with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MOFAD) and the Fisheries Commission (FC) to promote the enforcement of the recently announced fishing closed season for artisanal and inshore fleets.

To this effect, Kofi Kinaata has released a song titled “Illegal Fishing (Closed Season)” which has lyrics focused on creating awareness about the fishing closed season. The song also advocates for the observation of the ban on fishing within the period.

Commenting on the masterpiece produced by Blaq Keyz, the Fanti rapper expressed his delight to be involved in such an important project. “I am fully into this and going all out to ensure the message gets to the people who ought to hear it. I am hundred percent committed to this campaign and also open to working with other agencies and brands to preserve our environment as well as for human capital development, skill development and youth empowerment”.

The fishing closed season, from 15th May to 15th June 2019 is a step towards replenishing the depleted marine fish stock and also key to the Fisheries Management Plan of Ghana. The closed season will allow fish to reproduce and create an enabling environment for the juvenile fishes to grow. Ultimately, it is to safeguard the fish reproduction process and allow fish to spawn and multiply.
