Kofi Kum Bilson : People Should Not Talk Anyhow

In an exclusive interview granted to the News One paper in his office at Peace FM, Kofi Kum Bilson, the short but broadminded broadcaster has castigated those in authority for not cracking the whip as well as enforcing the statutory laws to the letter so as to make Ghana a country with doing business in.

According to him, “It is not as if the judges, the police and the lawyers don’t know the laws, but you know Ghana, strange things are indeed happening.”

He went on to say that every law that needed to be applied to protect, straighten and brighten the image of Ghana are in the statutory books, yet those in authority sit aloof and allow the law to be trampled upon with impunity to his discomfiture.

Kofi cited the issue of academic corruption and gave an instance: “There are some educated people in higher places who pilfer with the pen and twist figures to outwit those in authority and yet when such men are arrested, they manage to wriggle their way to freedom, which is quite unfortunate and disturbing.”

To Kofi, the fact that we have freedom of the press does not mean that people should talk anyhow.“When we say freedom of speech, it should not be skewed. People should respect the elderly in society by taking into cognizance, their status and age. The citizenry should not take advantage of democracy and malign or cast a slur on the image of people because a dented image or reputation is difficult to redeem,” He said.

Kofi is a chartered accountant - a course his parents forced him to pursue but he later had to opt for broadcasting because that is what he loves doing.“In radio it was the late Dusty Wayne of GBC who nurtured me to become what I am today and may his soul rest in peace,” he stated.

He was born and bred in Accra and attended Datus Preparatory School. He continued to Accra Academy for his ordinary and advanced level education. He then undertook an I.C.A course to become a chartered accountant. Kofi is the last born of six children and is married with two beautiful daughters. He fellowships at K.I.C.C.
