Kora awards (Burkina Faso)

THIS WEEK ON M-NET'S STUDIO 53

Ghana’s field presenter, Anita attended and hosted this year’s Kora Awards celebration held in Burkina Faso’s capital city, Ouagadougou. The country’s president was part of the long guest list and this red carpet event was a real success and definitely a night to remember.

The KORA All Africa Music Awards was created in 1994 by a Namibian registered company until 1999 when it was transferred under the management of a South African- registered Company, KORA Entertainment Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd.

Coming after protests from many African artists, political leaders and our licensees in various African countries, requesting the moving around of the Pan-African awards ceremony, the organizers have decided to move the event from South Africa where it has been staged for ten years to Nigeria.

Actor Emile Abossolo Mbo (France)

Anita then met up with Paris-based Cameroonian, Emil Abossolo Mbo, who fell in love with cinema at the age of six and went on to immerse himself in the world of performance. He speaks about his love for acting and music.

Fashionable Advocates (Nigeria)

IK met up with Nigerian advocate, Dr. Eyimofe Atake who is a real fashion trendsetter. He is one of the ageless style icons in Nigeria with a stylish and impressive dress sense. Check out this insert for fashion tips!

Nija Nights (Kenya)

Started by the Taurus group last year, the concept of Naija Nights has taken east Africa by storm, as everybody, including Fareed, got into celebrating Nigerian lifestyle and culture into the hours of the morning.

George Benson (South Africa)

George Benson has proven himself one of the most influential and versatile performers in popular music. Having been in the music industry for about four decades, this guitarist and singer continues to entertain! He was one of the performers at this year’s Cape Town Jazz Festival and Grace got an opportunity to chat to the legend.

Jazz Festival Cape Town (SA)

After the one on one interview with jazz legend George Benson, Grace went on to check out the performances at the 11th annual Cape Town International Jazz festival. She also had an opportunity to chat to South African jazz maestros Jonathan Butler and Vusi Masahlela.

Toni Tones -Photographer (Nigeria)

Photography is the one art discipline that is sometimes not seen as art! Many would say that it is primarily a mechanical process of getting pictures developed. The lighting, the nuances of the subject in front of the camera, these are all critical factors which go into making a great picture. IK learnt more about the art.

Salsa Dance (Cuba)

Salsa is a Spanish word for ‘sauce’, or ‘spicy flavor’. The name also suggests a ‘mixture’ of ingredients. Its roots are Cuban, but it is open to improvisation, hence the continuous evolution. Lebo found out more about this dance during his recent trip to Habana, Cuba.
