Kumasi Central Prisons mount exhibition

Kumasi, Jan 5, GNA - The Kumasi Central Prisons has mounted an exhibition to showcase some of the handiwork of the inmates and among the items displayed were pyjamas, nightwear, door mats and crochet works.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi Mrs Josephine Freduah-Agyemang, the Deputy Director in-charge of the Female Prisons, said the exhibition was aimed at making known to the public what the inmates could do and also seek market for the products. She said her outfit also undertakes bakery, batik, tie and dye and palm oil extraction for sale.

Mrs Freduah-Agyemang mentioned lack of market as the major problem facing them, saying the inmates could produce large quantities of the products to generate income if market was found.

She commended Unijay and Awura Abenaa Fashion Centres and Neoplan Drivers Wives Association for their regular support to the female prison and urged others to emulate their example.

The Deputy Director appealed to churches, non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to help provide seed capital for the inmates who had completed their apprentice training and jail terms to enable them start their own businesses to avoid any forms of social vices that could land them into prison again.
