You probably would know him as the budding Kumawood comedian who is making waves in the Ghanaian movie industry, starring in over 60 local movies.
Born Samuel Nana Yaw Dabo,,he goes by the stage name “Dabo” aka Adwen Kessie (big brain). The 17 years old sensation claims he had passion for football before venturing into the movie industry.
The “Megye Wo Girl” actor also revealed owning three football teams- all of which he solely finance.
In an interview with Accra-based Atinka FM, Yaw Dabo opened up on his football clubs.
“People watch us in movies and think we only fool but we also have our personal interests in other fields”, he said.
“I am an ardent football man and I own three teams in the colts division with an U-10, 14 and U-17 teams,
“All these have talented players I scouted to play matches every weekend, I have to pay for the expenses of the matches and I have invested so much into the club and it is because I want to help the youngsters develop on their talents.”
On how he sees football administration and the hustle in owning a football club, Dabo stated lack of support for grassroots football in Ghana, calling on the Ghana Football Association to attend to them.
“Nyantakyi is my friend, I have met him on several occasions but my worry is that we don’t pay much attention to grassroots football like the Europeans do”, he said. “Our premier league is dying because we don’t produce enough talents at the grassroots level.”
The 2015 Kumawood Award winner also revealed that he sometimes acts as the coach for his teams in matches because he thinks most of the coaches are not good enough.
“I employ coaches but sometimes I coach my teams in matches and we win.” “Sometime ago, I employed a coach and gave him a two-month probation but he failed so I had to take over, and we ended up winning all matches and with good number of goals,” he said.
