Kumawood Star Mercy Asiedu has stated that Kumawood movies are way better than the much talked about Kumkum Bhagya which has overly been hyped by sections of the Ghanaian media.
The Indian telenovella with Twi voice over shown on Adom Tv has been rated as a much watched series compared to the local movies by Kumasi-based actors and actresses.
But storming the studio of Abusua 96.5fm on the Abusua nkomo show hosted by its morning show host Kwame Adinkrah, Mercy Asiedu dispelled allegations that it has taken over the movie industry in the country.
She contends that Kumawood movies still have much audience in the country, saying Kum kum bhagya is not a threat to Kumawood industry.
‘What is so special about Kumkum Bhagya that we have not done some before in this country, the difference is that they are Indians who speak Twi and wear Indian dresses. The movie is repetition of scenes. It’s the same as what we have been doing, Ghanaians don’t appreciate their own, is it possible to send Ghanaian movies to Indian for translation to be shown on national television, we should appreciate our own, we can do better than what they are doing, Kumkum Bhagya is not a threat to Kumawood, we are also going into production of series, some of their scenes lack quality,’ she explained.
She stated that they will be attending a seminar in Koforidua on how to improve themselves and adopt strategies that would grow the industry.
Kwaku Manu had earlier indicated that the KumKum Bhagya has strengthened them to go the extra mile in the movie making.
‘Kumkum Bhagya is all about their culture, we will go higher to churn good movies,’ he assured.
