The manager of Kwabena Kwabena, Nana Poku Ashis, has revealed that some individuals accepted money on behalf of the highlife artiste without his consent after he composed a campaign song for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Ashis clarified that while Kwabena Kwabena believed he had created the song voluntarily and for free, NPP party executives were under the impression that payments had been made.
Ashis explained that a few friends of the musician, who were also party members, took money from the party leadership, claiming it was for Kwabena Kwabena.
“Some people charged on his head. Some of his friends that led him to go and meet the party leadership, charged on his head. So, the party knows that they’ve given Kwabena something through somebody. Where the money dey? He never got the money," he stated.
When Kwabena Kwabena went to the party executives for payment, he was refused because they (the party executives) thought that he had been paid already.
Despite this setback, Kwabena Kwabena continued to support the NPP in subsequent elections, although he was neglected after the party won.
Ashis advised musicians to handle political engagements as business transactions and ensure proper payment arrangements to avoid similar issues.
Following his experience, Kwabena Kwabena has vowed never to compose a campaign song for any political party for free again and has instructed his management to secure official payments before any future recordings.
