Atibie(E/R), July 6, GNA - The 10th District Festival of Arts and Cultural for basic schools in the Kwahu South district under the theme "culture, a tool for peaceful co-existence has ended at Atibie. The schools, which were grouped into four zones, took part in poetry recital, drum language, choral music and dance was to select the best performers to represent the district in the regional festival scheduled for August at Akim Oda.
The zones included Mpraeso, Abetifi, Kwa hu Tafo and Kwahu Praso. The District Director of Education, Mr Abraham Adjetey Sowah, said the role of music and culture towards the development of the society and the nation could not be over emphasized. He said that was why the Ghana Education Service had made it an integral part of the school curriculum.
He said arts and culture played a significant role towards the achievement of national unity and peaceful co-existence irrespective of tribal sentiment and political affiliation.
Mr Sowah said some aspects of foreign culture were seriously undermining the country's cultural heritage by creating tension and conflict in schools and societies and appealed to stakeholders to assist to eradicate that canker.
He appealed to traditional leaders to assist the teaching of drum language and traditional dancing in the schools. Mpraeso zone was adjured the best zone for taking the first position in poetry recital, drum language and dance, they were followed by Kwahu Tafo zone with Abetifi and Kwahu Praso zones taking the third and forth position respectively.
