Channel O in partnership with Motorola on Thursday launched an African Music programme dubbed "Urban Massive" aimed at uniting African artistes on the Continent.
The programme aired to over 40 African countries weekly on Channel O on DStv has the crew visiting various African countries including Angola, Cameroon, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. Mr Kabelo Ngakane, host of the "Urban Massive" show at a press conference said the crew was in Ghana to interact with Ghanaian artistes and producers for five days.
The interaction with the Ghanaian musicians would be aired on the show aimed at popularising Ghanaian artistes to the rest of Africa. Mr Ngakane said: "There is the need for people in Sub-Saharan Africa to know each other through an African channel and to achieve the African renaissance we all crave for."
The programme would showcase African food and culture and would feature artistes including Batman; Tic Tac; Nana King; Kwabena Kwabena; Ayisoba as well as two up and coming artistes among others.
Mr Panji Anoff, co-producer of the show, explained that Channel O was the African way of knowing African people and communicating with one another to get the African message across.
He noted that they would focus on nightclubs and artiste and the Ghanaian lifestyle, saying: "We understand the importance of music in people's lives and we are constantly looking for innovative ways to integrate entertainment and communication for consumers anytime."
Mr Nicolas Regisford, Executive Producer, said Motorola's sponsorship of Urban Massive was based on its commitment to developing and supporting the music industry in Africa.
He expressed the hope that the show would be Africa's choice for local music viewing and listening pleasures.
