Kweku T fails to hold on

Kweku THe’s Out! Kwaku Tutu from Ghana became the seventh housemate to be evicted from Net’s Big Brother Africa on Sunday October 14.

As DStv audiences watched the live Sunday eviction show, series presenter Kabelo Ngakane made the big announcement, which sent Kwaku packing from the 98 day reality show!

Kwaku, who was nominated alongside Richard and Tatiana, was the last remaining member of the so-called ‘Untouchables’ clique. The saga of the ‘Untouchables’ began with Max’s nomination at the beginning of September.

It was Kwaku himself who named them ‘The Untouchables’, in an attempt to console Max after his name was called out that fateful Monday night. Kwaku claimed that they were the most entertaining housemates and would therefore be safe from eviction.

However, ‘The Untouchables’ angered the voters – and obviously their fellow housemates - with their perceived arrogance and rudeness in the Big Brother Africa house. Now, Kwaku has followed fellow ‘Untouchables’ Max, Lerato and Bertha out of the house and the presence of the ‘Untouchables’ is no longer a threat to the remaining housemates.

Kwaku received nominations from Richard, Maureen, Code, Tatiana and Ofunneka.

He got to see these Diary Room Nomination sessions during his eviction show, and, although he told KB that he expected all of the remaining housemates nominated him, he seemed surprised by some of their reasons, going so far as to shout comments over their voices as they pronounced their nominations.

As the big screen on the eviction platform showed Maureen nominating him, he yelled, “…ha! And she got naked for me!” On seeing Code’s nomination his comment was simply, “he’s a blatant liar.”

Before host Kabelo announced the name of this week’s evictee, Richard and Tatiana, clasped hands, as they were convinced that their steamy and tempestuous relationship would come to an end.

Throughout the weekend, Richard told Big Brother that he felt he would be the one to be evicted, and he has been acting as such for the last few days. He also admitted to his emotional conflict regarding his feelings for Angolan model, actress and housemate Tatiana Dos Santos and his wife.

When KB called Kwaku from the house Richard and Tatiana crumbled into each other – Tatiana in tears and Richard shell-shocked into silence.

Although she has never publicly admitted her feelings for Kwaku, at the announcement of his eviction, Ofunneka broke down completely, crying until well after the live show ended.

Meanwhile on the outside, the crowd went wild for sexy Kenyan hip-hop performer (and Channel O Spirit of Africa MVA winner) Nameless. He revved up the crowd with his perfect MC’ing style and choreographed backup dancers. After two tracks by Nameless and various inserts of the nominee’s home countries, Kwaku finally walked through Big Brother’s front door, and the crowd was hysterical.

They quietened down only to listen to KB’s interview which had elements of the viewer’s most pressing questions. These included Kwaku’s American-Ghanaian accent, his relationship with Zimbabwean Housemate Bertha Zakeyo and Namibian Housemate Meryl Shikwambane and his favourite moments in the House. His answer to the accent question was a simple, “well, I’ve lived in a lot of different places.”

As for the two gorgeous ex-Housemates he was known to have romanced he diplomatically said, “[both ladies] hold a special and unique place in my heart”. The show ended with Kwaku walking down the red carpet, toward his beaming, if slightly disappointed father and an unexpected supporter in the form of Bertha Zakeyo.

Now, with ‘The Untouchables’ out of the House, the remaining Housemates, all members of The Big Five, are going to be faced with a tough choice come tomorrow’s nominations. Alliances will go out of the window as friends and lovers will be forced to put each other’s names forward and there will truly be no place to hide.

Meanwhile reports reaching the Weekly Fylla indicates that Kwaku would be heading home today and all things been equal heads to the studios to complete his recording which he started before he left. Kwaku had featured on many songs with Reggie Rockstone, P Square, Ayisoba and the list is endless. He would be putting finishing touches to his next album; the source concluded. A press conference has been arranged at the Golden Tulip on Thursday at 10:00am.

It must be noted that this is the second time Ghana has participated in the Big Brother reality show. The maiden edition saw Sammi B taken the House and in fact the whole Africa by storm. Kwaku did his best to stay a week longer than Sammi. Whist Kwaku was evicted during the seventh eviction show Sammi was evicted during the sixth eviction show. Watch out for an exclusive interview in the Weekly Fylla when he arrives in the country.
