Lauryn Hill arrives today for Afro-Beats 2014

Ms Lauryn Hill, popular American songstress and former member of the hip-hop group, ‘The Fugees’, will arrive in Ghana today Friday, December 12, for the 2014 edition of ‘The Big Weekend Afro-Beats Festival’ scheduled for December 12, 13 and 14 at the Independence Square in Accra.

Ms Hill is headline artiste for the three-day music festival which has on its performance bill the likes of Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Efya, Okyeame Kwame, Mzvee, Joey B, Chase, Lil Shaker, Jay-So, Kumasi Kojo-Cue, Treasure, AI, Dex Kwasi and several others.

Surprisingly, event organiser BBnZ has confirmed that tickets for the entire three-day concert are selling at just GH¢10 and that all ticket sales will be at the gates.

On arrival today, Ms Hill is expected to have a brief encounter with entertainment journalists at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra ahead of the concert.

Though the ‘The Big Weekend Afro- Beats Festival’ takes off this evening, Ms Hill will be mounting the stage on Sunday night for a never-to-be forgotten 15live acoustic performance.

The event was first held in December 2013 as a historic entertainment festival to re-brand Ghana as a country that has the capacity to host world class music concerts and a country that is a hot tourist destination in the West African sub-region.

This year’s event is expected to be an improvement on the maiden edition.

According to the programme, the festival will start on Friday, December 12 with a Hip-hop-themed concert, followed by an actual Afro-beats party on Saturday December 13, and on Sunday December 14, a mellowed down live Acoustic gig will take place.

This year’s show will end up as an international concert as NEWS-ONE has gathered that there have already been several international bookings of tickets from music lovers across Africa and beyond.

Club Beer, beverage sponsor of the three-day concert, will be selling its products at factory price at the event’s venue and several eateries and restaurants will also be making make-shift setups just like last year.

The Independence Square, as the event’s venue, provides a huge space for parking cars and an unparalleled security presence.
