Lawyer For George Darko Replies To Network Herald Publication

We act for Nana Ampem Darko, Tufuhene of Akropong Akuapim.

Our client's attention has been drawn by several concerned persons and his business associates to an unhealthy publication of yours under the above mentioned caption.

The said publication at all material times has been hosted on the website of GhanaMusic.com

Our client desires us to state that he views with the greatest regret the said publication as it is intended without any basis whatsoever to denigrate him.

Here is why.

We are instructed to inform you that a tedious attempt is made by you to create the impression that our client had forcible carnal knowledge of the said Gyasebea. It is a statement which seeks to malign our client in base terms as it impugns the crime of rape to him.

None of the adjectives and verbs that you string together accurately describe our client’s conduct. Our client a chief and a celebrated international musician is a law abiding individual.

It instructive to note that Gyasebea, her mother and yourselves (ie. 'The Trinity') have not paid any regard to the record.

The said Gyasebea ably supported by her mother has never preferred or lodged a complaint of rape against our client either at the police station or at any other forum. The sudden turn-about with respect to the allegation of rape against our client by Gyasebea and your publication is clear evidence of malice towards our client.

The dye is deepened by the fact that when your reporter spoke to our client he asked him to confirm the details from the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Ghana Police Service. It is obvious that he failed to do so, or that even if he did so he chose to ignore same in other to pursue a selfish agenda.

In addition he denied all these jejune allegations which have found their way in the publication. For reasons best known to you his denial suffered an omission in the publication.

We are further instructed to inform you that the said Gyaseabea whose concocted story you have swallowed hook, line and sinker has approached two other persons in Takoradi at whose door steps she sought to lay the pregnancy.

It is for such reason that our client has at all material times insisted on a paternity test. The records available at the WAJU is proof our client’s willingness to submit himself for the test.

As ever in these affairs, the publication has had a crippling effect on our client’s reputation and his business. It has affected him in diverse ways. In this day and age when the internet is a mind boggling medium for communication the publication has reached many quarters.

Be that as it may, we are instructed to demand which we hereby do that you cause to be published an apology and a retraction of the said publication with the same prominence as the offending publication for deliberately bringing our client’s name into disrepute.

If you persist in your absurd conduct our client begs to suggest that a graceful solution to this matter will be litigation coupled with the attendant costs against you.

We are by a copy of this letter informing Ghana Web of our grievances and to ask them to remove the offensive material from their site immediately.

Please be advised.
