Leave Ofori Amponsah alone – Rex Omar

Highlife artiste, Rex Omar has thrown his weight behind Ghanaian highlife–artiste-turned–pastor, Ofori Amponsah’s decision to return to highlife.

The comeback of Mr All 4 Real has ignited controversy in the world of showbiz. While some suggest that there is everything wrong with his decision, others opine otherwise.

Rex Omar in an interview with Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch stated that he sees no reason why some people would attack Ofori Amponsah.

According to him, there is no justification for society to force musicians who are born again to sing gospel music.

“Were Ofori Amponsah’s songs people have branded ‘secular’ satanic? I have been to so many parties and weddings that Ofori’s songs were played at the gathering. So if after this, you speak against his decision to return to highlife, then I have a challenge with that,” he noted.

Rex Omar blamed the backlash on comments the converts make which seem to suggest that the life they lived was totally ungodly.

“But all these have emanated as a result of what baby Christians do. A lot of them remark that they have changed from their evil ways. I heard he said that some time ago and that is why his comeback has brought this whole hullaballoo. We are all doing the work of God in different ways. Your way of working must be used as a form of worshipping God,” he said.

“Are all these gospel artistes Christians? No! And even the songs they claim to be gospel are mostly innuendoes and sarcastic which has nothing to do with worshipping God. We have to change from that mind-set. You talk about how ladies will dance in his music video and on stage. The same dance moves are witnessed in churches. That’s hypocrisy,” Rex Omar added.

Known for hit songs Otoolege, Odwo, Puduo, Sardine, Emmanuella, among others, Ofori Amponsah has been out of the music industry for some years now to pursue full-time ministry.

He is currently the Head Pastor of the Holy Ground Sanctuary in Accra.
