In an era where highlife seems to have almost been forgotten in Ghana, Citi FM brought it to life through their annual Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) Festival which Okyeame Kwame was awarded the Artiste of the Year.
The award-winning hiplife artiste and AU Ambassador, Okyeame Kwame, in a speech after he was presented the award encouraged Ghanaians to do away with westernization and embrace Ghanaian culture.
“Our grandfathers were faced with slavery, our fathers with colonization and neo-colonization but we are faced with excessive westernization not only ‘dumsor’. It is time we make a difference and embrace our own”, he said.
After receiving the last but important award of the night, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Okyeame Kwame who was the last performer gave an energetic show of versatility.
He started his performance with his usual rap lines which was backed by beats from the ‘Fontonfrom’ and then the ‘Dondo’ drums fetching applause from the audience.
As versatile as he is, he effortlessly switched from freestyling to his ‘Yansana Aba’ song looking fully energized and doing what he does best.
The Rap Dacta still had command over the crowd as they seem not to get over his stage performance as they clapped, danced and sung along.
