Lifestyle: 10 tips for girls who want to be famous on social media

Fame on social media is highly sought-after because it Fame on social media is highly sought-after because it

Recently, American actress Selena Gomez broke a new social media world record by becoming the first woman on the planet to reach 100,000,000 Instagram followers.

Okay. In this article, we’re not going to help you reach 100,000,000 Instagram followers (though if you do, we want name-checking). But we can, however, help you to become famous on social media.

Fame on social media is highly sought-after because it’s such a lucrative business now. As well as the adulation, the attention, the free gifts and all the fans that come with it, you can also make a solid amount of money.

In fact, you can actually makes so much money that you get to quit your job. Amazing, right?

Popularity on social media is not easy, though. Internet users only have a finite amount of time on their hands. They can’t look at and watch everyone. To grab their attention in this world of never-ending content, you have to be pretty darn good. Here are 10 tips for girls who want to become famous on social media.

Buy New Clothes

All those clothes you’ve been wearing on your Facebook selfies? Yeah, they’re okay.

They’re okay if you want to attract about 12 “likes” that is.

If you’re happy with 12 “likes” then good for you.

“Yay! My new pic got 12 likes! Feel my flow!”

No one is feeling your flow. Why? Because you’re not wearing the right clothes.

Looking razor sharp is key if you want to become the new queen of social media. People care less for what you have to say and more for what you look like.

They wanna see you dressed to impress each day. They wanna see you make some effort in your attire. Clothes make the woman. Go invest in some smart and possible even expensive gear.

Entertain

Talk about math, science, engineering or whatever if you absolutely must. But please, PLEASE make it entertaining.

Nobody is going to waste their time watching a dullard on Facebook life who sends them to sleep. We don’t like boring people. It’s why television was invented. We like to be entertained.

I know lots of girls on Facebook who are mega successful solely they know how to entertain. At the end of the day, all they’re talking about is beauty products, but they’re doing it in such a way that people love to watch them.

Remember, Internet people have a worse attention span than a goldfish. If it’s clear after 5 seconds that you’re a snooze fest, you’re gonna lose your audience pretty darn quickly.

Be Positive

As well as being entertaining, it’s also really crucial that you’re positive, too. No Internet star is gloomy and morose (unless they’re being ironic).

Why? Because nobody wants to watch that sort of stuff!

Nobody says “I can’t frigging wait to get home from work so I can watch Kiera Hall talk about how the world is gonna end next week!”

To be a success on social media, you have to be positive and upbeat. All the time. Smile. Laugh. Look happy.

Engage With People

Always remember that you are nothing without your fans. Girls who get famous on social media are courteous to their fans and try to reply to as many messages as possible.

Don’t ignore people. Go out of your way to respond to them. Interact. Engage.

Take A Risk

No one who is successful got where they are without taking a risk. Risks are part and parcel of the everyday life of a successful person.

Basically, if you want to become famous on social media, you have to take risks. You have to risk your friend saying “don’t do that.”

You have to risk your own credibility by doing something totally unexpected, such as recoding a cover of Let It Go while building a snowman in a towel.

Be prepared to do something different. Be prepared to take a chance.

Don’t Ever Become Annoying

This is a trap that is easy to fall into. But at what point do you become annoying? And how do you know you’re being annoying? And how annoying are you?

Basically, don’t spam. Don’t push things too hard (such as items you’re selling or have been asked to advertise). Don’t have a melt down. Don’t get into petty arguments in the comment section.

And for the love of God, don’t offend huge demographics!

Research Social Media

How well do you even know the social media platforms? How well do you know each one’s demographics? For example, did you know that Facebook is used by both young and old people, whereas SnapChat is used predominantly by young people?

Knowing the social media channels inside out puts you in a position of strength. You know which ones to use to maximise your appeal, and which ones to avoid.

Don’t limit yourself to one, though. Use a few. Explore. Facebook is great for raising awareness of your brand, while SnapChat is fantastic for reaching a younger audience and engaging with people one on one.

Be Funny

Everyone loves funny people. You can’t become success on social media if you don’t have a sense of humour.

We’re not saying that you should be a comedian who fires out joke after joke, but you shouldn’t be afraid to have a laugh.

Keep things light, too. You want to come across as a warm, personable, friendly and fun person.

Get On YouTube

YouTube might be older than most other social media platforms, but its audience reach is still incredible.

Basically, videos are the best way of reaching people. We all prefer a video to a piece of text. If we click on a page and see a Play button, we’re far more likely to hang around than if we just see rows and rows of texts.

Get yourself seen on YouTube and redirect people to your website.

Be Honest

If you’re honest, people will trust you and your brand will grow. If you tell lies and get caught out, it’s game over.

Internet people can be very suspicious. If you show that you’re the real deal, they will totally warm to you.

Stay happy!
