Renowned actor Kwadwo Nkansah, aka LilWin, has been released on a GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court in Kumasi.

His release came shortly after his arrest on Monday, June 3, 2024.

LilWin's arrest by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command, just after his discharge from the hospital, is in relation to a fatal accident where a vehicle he was driving crashed into another, leading to the death of a three-year-old child.

The bereaved family has been vocal in seeking justice for their lost child. The police explained that LilWin's arrest delay was due to his medical condition.

LilWin is currently under investigation and is facing charges of dangerous driving and causing harm through negligence.

The prosecution has requested his presence for ongoing inquiries.

As reported by citinewsroom.com, despite the delay attributed to LilWin's health, his lawyer, Margaret Adjei-Twum, argued for his bail, citing his injuries, which included internal bleeding, adding that the bail was necessary for him to continue his medical treatment.

Adjei-Twum assured the court that her client’s popularity in Ghana and his commitment to facing legal proceedings dismissed any risk of him fleeing.

The defence also expressed concerns about being rushed to court by the police before LilWin had fully recuperated.

The court has adjourned the case to June 27, 2024.

Background

LilWin, reportedly driving at high speed, collided with the vehicle carrying little Nana Yaw and his father, Jacob Kofi Ampomah.

Both Nana Yaw and his father were promptly taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where the young boy tragically died.
