Renowned Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has announced his withdrawal from the race for the Afigya Kwabre South parliamentary seat in the Ashanti region.

He cited the high costs associated with political campaigns as the reason for his decision. In August 2023, the actor declared his intention to run for MP in the constituency as an independent candidate.

His action was a result of the encouragement of traditional leaders and constituents who believed in his potential to represent them.

However, LilWin has now decided to step back from the current political contest, which has William Owuraku Aidoo of the New Patriotic Party as the incumbent MP.

Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on May 13, 2024, LilWin revealed that he cannot afford the required funding for a successful political campaign at the moment. He expressed his intention to regroup and return as an independent candidate in 2028.

When asked about his decision to remain independent, LilWin explained that he has friends in both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), making it difficult for him to align with a single party.

"I am no longer contesting... I will contest in the next four years... I am waiting for that. I am going independent. Likewise, I can't join a political party because I love both parties and have friends everywhere," he said.

Meanwhile, LilWin is gearing up to premiere his highly anticipated movie, "A Country Called Ghana," on May 17, 2024, at the National Theatre in Accra.

Directed by Fiifi Ghabbin and produced by Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win, the movie features Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum, Victor Osuagwu (popularly known as 'Awilo Sharp Sharp'), Paa George, and Sweet Mimi, among others.
