Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has expressed anger over the trend of politicians distributing gifts to influence voters, particularly during the voting process.
His comments come in response to a recent incident during the special voting for the 2024 general elections in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, where NPP MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan was seen distributing food to voters in line.
The act has been widely criticised and labeled a ploy to induce voters.
Kwaku Manu, sharing his thoughts on the issue in a viral video has made it clear that no political party, regardless of affiliation, can sway his vote with gifts or bribes.
He firmly stated that if any party member approaches him with a gift while he’s waiting in the queue to vote, there would be serious consequences.
"If I am standing in the queue waiting to vote, and any party member, from either Party A or Party B, approaches me with a goodie and says, 'Kwaku, take this,' either you or I will create a scene. I will even slap you. If you do that to me, you've insulted me. This is not the time for you, the minister or MP, to pretend that you care about me. You don’t get to show up with rice or water to try and win my vote," he stated.
He emphasised, "If you like, prepare fufu with my favourite soup, I will still vote against you if you are not the candidate I intend to support. I’ll ensure I eat whatever I want before going to the polling station. I cannot be bribed."
Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the NPP candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, 's conduct during the special voting process has raised massive concerns.
Her actions have led to her opponent, NDC parliamentary candidate John Dumelo, filing a petition with the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Dumelo is calling for a thorough investigation into the matter and for those responsible to be held accountable.
