Internationally acclaimed award-winning musician, M.anifest, celebrated singer and songwriter Gena West, and ace radio presenter Ms Naa have been named as the judges for Vodafone Icons, the country’s top-rated television music reality show.
The fourth season of Icons, named Vodafone Icons Remix edition, promises to be entertaining. Excited about his inclusion to the three-member judging panel, M.anifest said: “I am looking forward to some of Ghana's musical gems being unearthed this season."
The 2013 Best Rapper of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards added: "Icons Remix is a magnificent opportunity for young promising voices to be seen and heard on a huge national platform.
The remix idea is a fine one as well; it will encourage young talents to bring their creativity to live instead of copying.”
Gena West, who returns as a judge for the fourth consecutive time, said it feels good to come back with another opportunity to find more talent in Ghana
"This year we're in our fourth season of Vodafone Icons and we intend to up our game. Everything that we've done well in the past is going to be done better,” explained the versatile performer renowned for her solo Acappella performances and her unique ability to make any song her own.
She concluded, ‘’It's the Remix Edition and we've remixed our panel of judges, we've remixed the way we audition contestants and there will be lots of surprises along the way.
We are looking for someone with real star quality and I, as usual, will not sugar-coat my opinion or mince my words. I think viewers can expect to have a very entertaining season of Vodafone Icons."
Ms Naa, who also returns as a judge for the third consecutive time, stated that the judges have their work cutout. “It’s up to the judges to spot the potential in contestants and groom them to carry on and raise the quality of Ghana music even higher.
Ghana music is doing very well; artistes are being booked to perform overseas and winning international awards."
The host of the flagship morning radio show 'Ryse n Shyne' on Ghana's Y-FM further stated: "Vodafone Icons is always fun for me, but it's hard work too.”
Vodafone Icons, which started in 2010, has produced amazing singers including Afro Rock singer, Noella Wiyaala, RnM, Black & Peach and Ryan.
