The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, has advised musicians in the Northern Region to compose songs which will unite the people in the Dagbon paramountcy.
He said it is the responsibility of musicians in the area to come out with songs which will move the hearts of the people to stop the conflicts in the region. Alhaji Sidiku Buari gave the advice in Tamale last week when he swore in a new executive of MUSIGA for the Northern Region.
He appealed to musicians to develop their talents in music by composing songs which will portray the cultural values of the country, adding that “it is only when you work in this direction that you can enter the international market and make good returns.”
On registration, the President charged musicians to register their works at the Copyright Office to enable them benefit from royalty payments. He announced that a five-member committee has been set up by MUSIGA to find a solution to the upsurge of indecent music which is sending wrong signals to the youth in the society.
In the elections supervised by officials from the Electoral Commission, Mr Delali Alormena was elected chairman of the regional branch of MUSIGA with Prince Mahama as vice chairman and Mr Ali B. Konlan, secretary.
Mr Azumah Atinga was voted treasurer with Messrs. Somed Akonse and Sherifatu Issa as trustees. Mr Alhassan Zakaria was elected to the office of organising secretary.
From Kumasi, Serwah Nkyira Opoku reports that the Ashanti Regional branch of MUSIGA has also held its regional congress to elect a new executive for the association at the Centre for National Culture (NCN) in Kumasi.
Mr Abraham Kofi Asante was elected as the regional chairman of the association with Ewura Ama Badu as the vice chairman and Mr. Fladih as the secretary.
The National President of MUSIGA, Alhaji Sidiku Buari in his address advised musicians in the country to always consult the MUSIGA anytime they want to enter into the signing of contracts with their producers.
He explained that because most of the musicians in the country do not know their rights some producers take undue advantage of them when it comes to signing of agreements.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo reiterated his government’s support for growth of the music industry in the country. He explained that music forms part of human life and activities and therefore must be promoted to serve as a source of activities that put people on their right toes.
The Minister urged musicians to come together and change the profanity attached to today's music. He advised members of the association to collaborate with the Regional Coordinating Council to promote the music industry in the region.
