MUSIGA don’t be a weak institution, crack a whip

Over the years we have seen the likes of Blakk Rasta, Appietus, and Kwaw Kese among others blast Charterhouse Ghana, later on apologies and the next year they win awards.

What sort of precedence is being set? An artiste insults Charterhouse publicly, afterwards apologies and subsequently he/she wins an award.

If this indiscipline continues, then gradually many artistes will follow the trend, they won't even waste time to make good music in order to gain awards but would rather sought to insult Charterhouse, later on apologize and win an award.

I’m sure MUSIGA (Musicians Union of Ghana) as a trade union which seeks the welfare of musicians of Ghana has its constitution; rules and regulations which govern its operation. I am just hoping for the day MUSIGA will crack its whip.

If MUSIGA had punished the first or second artiste who disrespected Charterhouse, I don't think this sort of incidence would have occurred continuously. The only thing Charterhouse can do is to take legal action against any artiste who insults or infringe upon their rights because they are just an organisation, they do not have absolute control but MUSIGA has the authority to punish any artiste who goes wrong.

High level of indiscipline in the music industry. Can't MUSIGA for once penalize an artiste who goes wrong?

What made me come up with this piece is the incidence with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale who insulted Charterhouse because he thinks he was robbed off an award he deserved to Kaakie.

The question I am asking is, “what prevented Shatta Wale from apologizing to Charterhouse at the time he apologized to Kaakie?”

Why is Shatta Wale apologizing now? Well who knows, it may be a sincere apology but some Ghanaians have the opinion that, this whole apology thing may have been contrived because obviously Charterhouse cannot deny Shatta Wale nominations in next year’s Ghana Music Awards.
