MUSIGA initiates moves to form own Copyright Society

Accra, July 30, GNA - Members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have initiated moves to form their own copyright society to be known as Music Copyright Society of Ghana (MCOSGA) following the proposed abolition of the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA). A statement signed in Accra on Monday by Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of MUSIGA said this was possible because the new Copyright Law permitted and gave recognition to such societies. On the impending MUSIGA elections scheduled for Sunyani on November 14, the Union assured the nation that the polls to be supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission would be very transparent. "On the 'D' day all aspirants will be vetted to ensure that only musicians who have the Union at heart assume leadership positions," the statement said.

It said before then elections would be conducted to elect representatives from all the ten regions and that only members in good standing would be eligible. Forms for the contest for positions of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer and Welfare Officer would be available for collection at the Union's Headquarters from August 10 to October 5 from 0900 hours to 1600 hours each day, the statement added. 30 July 07
