The Musicians Union of Ghana, MUSIGA, on Tuesday re-launched its website and a web portal to meet the requirements of times, and better serve members and stakeholders in the Music Industry.
The website www.musiga.org.gh is in line with the leadership’s vision of rebranding the Union, create wealth for music right owners, increase investor confidence in the sector and make the industry more responsive to modern trends. It was sponsored by the World Bank, The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Ecobank and launched in Accra.
Mr. Bice Osei Kuffour, President of MUSIGA, said two years ago the union, with the support of the Norwegian Copyright Society (NORCODE), initiated a project to build a digital library of Ghanaian musical works.
He said it became evident that the content of the library could be commercialized to provide additional revenue to the right owners, who would want their work to be exploited on an internet platform.
Mr. Kuffour said the sponsors recognized the potential in the project, as a relevant option to create wealth for the owners, adding, “Ecobank have supported the first phase of the project by providing the seed capital for the development of this new interactive website for the Union with multi-purpose functions.”
“The website would be an interactive platform for industry members, friends and advertising space and other website services,” he added.
He appealed to all musicians who are right owners to submit copies of their works for the music industry database and extended an invitation to all record label owners and artist managers to contact the union on the benefits of the web portal.
Mr. Kuffour expressed the Union’s appreciation to the Government of Ghana, Ecobank, UNDP and the World Bank for supporting the project.**
