Man Butchers Wife Over Denied Sex

Shock and grief have gripped the people of Akyem Akroso and its environs following the hacking to death of a woman, Akua Kyereh, 37, by her husband, Kwasi Tawiah, over sex which was denied him.The offence actually occurred at a village called Appiah Dem, near Akroso, at dawn last week when the man approached his wife with the demand to allow him have sex with her.

Sources say the woman refused as she had allegedly been doing often these days, pleading to be allowed to pray first.Opanin Tawiah grew angry, pulled a cutlass and hacked his wife he wanted to have intercourse with till she was cut into two at the tummy side. Their 12-year-old son, Effah Ansong, began screaming. But sooner had he started than he was knocked off his senses as Tawiah hit him heavily on the head with a pestle. The boy has since been rushed to the Koforidua Government hospital where he is reported to be in critical condition.

When the Akroso Police Station, under whose jurisdiction the crime falls, was contacted, the story was confirmed. It was learnt that the suspect was overpowered and dumped at a cell at Akyem Oda, the Divisional headquarters while investigations continue.
