Inside Hotel De Patal, a brothel in the Upper West Region, a dark, stout occupant believed to be infected with the killer disease in his early thirties keeps a jotter in which he records the names of girls he is said to have infected with the deadly HIV/AIDS Virus.
A confidential report, filled by the Upper West Regional Information Services Department, and dispatched to the Ministry of Information, has sounded the alarm bell that about 75 innocent girls and ladies in that region, have so far been deliberately infected by the man identified as Mr Taufiq, alias Dowdow.
"His victims range from Junior Secondary School pupils whom he mystifies with sweet talk and gifts, to royal princesses, with whom he negotiates sex with plain cash," the report said. Taufiq and his gang are said to be operating from a brothel said to be the property of Dr Edmund Delle. The property which is said to have been purchased by the CPP Chairman about two years, ago, the report said, is yet to be rehabilitated.
The situation report from the Upper West Regional Information Office identified Taufiq as a foreman in-charge of the gutters construction in the Nandom town Roads contract, awarded to P&W Ghanem, but sublet to the culprit's elder brother, Muhaideen Makongo, alias "M," a well-known rich and powerful contractor in the Upper West Region.
According to the report which was prepared and signed by the Upper West Reginal Information Officer, Abdul-Samad Issah and sent to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Information, in Accra, the young man has confessed to infecting 40 persons in Wa and Tumu alone. And 35 more in the andom/Hamile area, whose names he has carefully recorded in a scrap book in his possession at the moment.
