Man Jailed Six Years For Stealing Father's Sheep

A 20-year-old unemployed man from Abura a suburb of Cape Coast was on Monday jailed six years by a Cape Coast circuit court for stealing five sheep from his father's pen.

Ato Kwamina, who pleaded guilty, said he stole the sheep because his father refused to assist him to learn a trade and cursed him to be a thief. Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court that Kwamina lives in the same house with his father who rears sheep.

Some of the animals got stolen and whenever his father questioned him he threatened him with death and on March 13, the father detected that five of the sheep were missing.

Inspector Amonoo said the next day the Pedu watchdog committee members were on patrol around the cemetery when they heard Kwamina telling one Ali now at large that he had something for sale at the market. Kwamina then brought a slaughtered sheep in a sack and the committee members who were hiding arrested him.
