Man arrested for impersonating

Sunyani, Oct 15, GNA- Police in Sunyani have nabbed a 54-year-old man who posed as an NPP activist and collected huge sums of money from district assemblies and district chief executives in Brong Ahafo. Kofi Adarkwa, who also posed as the Lawra District Director of Education in the Upper West Region, has been placed in custody.

Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani that Adarkwa approached Mrs Akubuor Debrah, Regional Director of Education, in August in her office and identified himself as the Lawra District Director of Education.

He said the suspect told Mrs. Debrah that he had heard of a vacancy at Sene District and wanted her to transfer him to fill the vacant position.

The Regional Director directed the suspect to Accra to see the Director General of Education for assistance. Mrs Debrah doubted the suspect's statement and impounded the vehicle belonging to Sene District Education Directorate that he was using. More

Inspector Tawiah said Adarkwa was not seen again till October 10 when he returned to Mrs. Debrah with a letter signed by a teacher in Dominase Bekwai in the Ashanti Region indicating that the suspect had been transferred from his former station to Sene District.

He said Adarkwa could, however, not answer any question posed by Mrs. Debrah about the letter and this made the Regional Director to suspect foul play and called in the police.

The PRO said that the suspect refused to give his statement to the police during interrogation and denied having deceived and collected huge sums of money from anybody, stating that the Atebubu DCE and Sene District Assembly's PRO, who are his friends, only gave him 50,000 cedis and 150,000 cedis respectively.
