A trivial misunderstanding over a bottle of Guinness stout degenerated into horror when Kwaku Agyemang, a carpenter at Kunka Junction, Obuasi, chewed off the penis of his friend, Osman Abubakar.
The incident happened on the night of July 3, this year, after the two friends had consumed some alcoholic beverage at a drinking spot in a competitive manner.
An Obuasi Magistrate Court which heard the case on Thursday convicted and fined Agyemang GH¢200, plus a compensation of GH¢100 to his pal after the court heard the accused had already footed the medical bill of the victim.
He was convicted on his own plea to the charge of assault, contrary to section 84 of Act 29/60, and would serve a four-month jail term in default of payment.
Inspector Albert Anani, police prosecutor, told the court presided over by Francis Yao Gbeddy that both the complainant and the convict were good friends living in the same neighbourhood at Kunka Junction.
On July 3, 2011 at about 7:20pm, Kwaku Agyemang went on a drinking spree with his pal, Osman Abubakar, during which the latter clandestinely consumed a bottle of Guinness stout belonging to Agyemang without his approval.
A misunderstanding ensued between them in the course of which Agyemang threatened to seize the DVD player of his pal.
As the convict set off to put his words into action, his friend Osman followed up to track him and that resulted in a fight between them.
In the course of the ugly turn of events, Agyemang, who could not wrestle Osman, went under his pal, grabbed his penis and bit a sizeable portion of it.
Both friends reported the incident to police and Agyemang was arrested while Osman was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for treatment.
The convict was later charged with the offence of assault after police investigations and arraigned.
