Man locks up daughter for five months to her death

The Adansi-Atobiase Police in Ashanti are looking for Apric Frafra, 45, a farm labourer of Subin Camp near Atobiase, who allegedly locked up his ten-year old daughter in a room for nearly five months resulting in her death. The suspect is said to have ?imprisoned? Yaayaa Frafra from last February to 10 June as a punishment for being a thief.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times? in Kumasi at the weekend, police sources said that the suspect lived with his daughter at Subin Camp where he worked as a farm labourer. Frafra was said to have frequently chastised the girl for stealing his money. When all efforts to get the girl to turn over a new leaf failed, the suspect, early February, gave her severe thrashing and then locked her up in a room to serve as a deterrent.

That was after the girl allegedly stole some money belonging to the suspect. The girl remained incarcerated until 10 June when an informant alerted the Adansi-Atobiase Police who quickly released her and arrested the suspect. Owing to her poor health, Frafra was granted an enquiry bail to enable him send her to hospital for immediate medical attention.

The girl was initially admitted to the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital and later New Edubiase Government Hospital where she was discharged about two weeks later. On 2 July, the girl fell ill again and died while being rushed to hospital .The suspect disappeared from the village soon after his daughter?s death.
